Victorians Say No to Commercial Kangaroo Killing – New Survey Reveals Overwhelming Public Opposition

Victorians have spoken — and the message is clear: the commercial slaughter of kangaroos does not reflect our values.

In our new independent Spotlight on Kangaroos: Victoria State Survey Report, conducted by PureProfile in September 2023 with 534 Victorian respondents, the results are resounding:

  • 90% agree kangaroos should remain part of the Australian landscape

  • 88.2% believe we should share the land with our native wildlife

  • 76% find the killing of orphaned joeys unacceptable

  • 69% agree commercial killing causes unnecessary animal cruelty and suffering

  • 77% want commercial killing stopped until reliable population estimates are obtained

  • 68% support farmers switching to non-lethal coexistence strategies

The report also shows strong support for greater transparency, respect for Indigenous cultural perspectives (including the Yuin Declaration), and a transition to eco-tourism opportunities instead of exploitation.
